For many Cochlear recipients, receiving a new sound processor can bring a wave of different feelings—joy, surprise, and hope among them. Pearson H. is a 14-year-old bilateral cochlear implant recipient who recently upgraded to Cochlear™ Nucleus® 7 Sound Processors. The sound quality and wireless connectivity transformed his hearing experience and made it easier for him to hear the sounds that matter most.
Watch as Pearson and his mom, Donna, recall his upgrade experience:
Unboxing the Sound Processors
Donna says everything changed when the sound processors were delivered to their house.
“[Pearson] came outside and signed for it, and opened up the box,” she recalls. “He was so overwhelmed. His eyes filled up with tears. It was just incredible.”
Pearson says he was immediately impressed with the improvement in sound quality.
“When I first got my Nucleus 7 sound processors, everything sounded clearer,” he says.
His favorite feature is the ability to stream audio directly from his iPhone® to his sound processors, thanks to the True Wireless™ connectivity. He also uses the TV Streamer to hear while watching TV or playing video games with family and friends.
“I can just get out my phone, and push TV Streamer, then the TV Streamer sends the sound right into my ears,” Pearson says. “It’s amazing.”
On the Court
Pearson is also a big advocate for the Mini Microphone 2+, which he uses at tennis practice to hear his coach.
“You just put it on your shirt, and I can hear him across the court,” Pearson explains.
Donna says she loves being able to talk on the phone with her son and not worry about him missing a moment of the conversation.
“He likes to talk on the phone, and he will talk your ear off on the phone,” she says. “It’s totally different.”
She says that as a parent, she wants her son to have the “newest and best technology,” and the Nucleus 7 Sound Processors are a perfect fit.
“Everything about it is improved,” Donna says. “One of the first things he said when he put them on, he was like, ‘I don’t ever want to turn them off.’ He just fits right in, like any normal kid.”
