With the recent approval of SmartSound iQ, came additional technologies designed to optimize the sound in many listening environments, including noise, automatically to make listening easier.
Background Noise Reduction (SNR-NR) is designed to attenuate steady-state background noises irrespective of their direction. It detects the background noise level in each frequency channel, estimates the signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) in each channel for each time sample, and attenuates those channels with a low SNR. The result is an instantaneous reduction of background noise levels while retaining speech and other important signals for the user.
Listen to Dr. Stefan Mauger, Senior Research Engineer explain how the newest noise management technology from Cochlear works and how Background Noise Reduction can benefit your patients in noisy environments.
It is recommended that SNR-NR be made available to any recipient ages 6 years and older, who is able to:
- Complete objective speech perception testing in quiet and in noise in order to determine and document performance
- Report a preference for different program settings.
